Procedures For Sampling

Procedure for sampling and the sending of samples to the SAGL:

 

SAGL requests that grain silos/millers follow the under mentioned procedure in order to enable SAGL to conduct a wheat quality survey representative of all the wheat produced in South Africa:

  • For grading purposes, a representative sample according to the wheat grading regulations, is already taken from each consignment received from farmers.
  • Please provide bags of about 50 to 100 kg at the point of grading for the different grades of wheat (per silo bin where applicable).
  • Take approximately 100 - 500 g per grading sample and put it in the bag with the corresponding grade.
  • When the bag is full, please divide twice and take a 3 kg sample to be sent to the SAGL.
  • Please mark this sample clearly with the following information:

1)            Silo name                                             or                              1)            Name of Mill

2)            Bin number                                                                            2)            Grade of wheat

3)            Grade of wheat                                                                     3)            Region(s) this wheat was received from  

  • Pack the samples in a sturdy cardboard box and deliver or alternatively send the samples by means of a courier to:

The quality results will be e-mailed to the grain silo/mill as soon as the samples have been analysed.

You are urgently requested to send your samples to SAGL as soon as possible.
